Mildred Effler Goss Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

In Celebration of the Life Mildred Effler Goss Mildred Goss of Cedar Bluff, VA, formerly of Chicago, IL went to the Lord on Wednesday, September 2, 2015. She was born August 7, 1923 in Duhring, WV and was the daughter of the late Nannie Bell Day Young and Lawrence Effler. Ms. Goss was employed at Western Electric Corporation, (now AT & T), in Chicago for 15 years. While she was employed there, she was offered a supervisor position; but due to her limited education was disqualified. Many farm girls were not given the opportunity to receive an education. The sky would have been her limit. She was considered by her friends in Chicago to be a wonderful, loyal, and trusting friend, and also the “Most Worrying Friend”. She was always worrying about her loved ones. Even though she was the hardest working person, sometimes working many times at two and three jobs; she always had time for her children and grandchildren. Many times, as her children, we remember mother opening her doors to poor kids and feeding them. People were always welcomed at her home. She was very much like her own mother, Nannie Bell Day Effler Young. They were both “True Southern Ladies”. In addition to her mother, she was predeceased by: her husband, Hosea “Jerry” Goss; two sisters: Bessie Arnold and Edith Young Jackson; four brothers, William “Bill” Effler, Junior Young, Tom Young and Doss Young; stepfather, Harve Young; grandchildren, very beloved, Melissa White and Little Sean. She is survived by: Daughters: Carol Varney and husband Bill of Oak Brook, IL Loretta Crabtree and husband, Roger of Wilmington, IL Delta Fabris and husband, Al of Sevierville, TN Brenda Jaworski and husband, Ted of IL Melinda Biscan of Pounding Mill, VA Son: Michael Goss of Richlands, VA Sisters: Verna Nichols, Ann Young Mosley, Ruby Young McGraw, Beatrice “B.J.” Effler Brothers: Floyd Young and Luke Young Grandchildren: Jerry Varney and wife, Valerie of Hinsdale, IL; Steve Varney and wife, Bett of Columbia, KY; Tim Varney and wife, Anita of Sevierville, TN; Tyra Crabtree of Naperville, IL; Sara Pack of Braidwood, IL; Jennifer Jaworski of IL, Cynthia Deimling and husband, Mark of IL; Kenny Jaworski of Arlington Heights, IL; Angela Fabris of Phoenix, AZ; Nicholas Fabris of Sevierville, TN Great Grandchildren: Brooke and TJ Pack of Wilmington, IL; Ethan and Evan Deimling of IL; Zackory White, Lucas White and Miranda White of Richlands, VA; Justin Varney, Stefanie Marie Wolcott, Braxton Varney of Sevierville, TN, Nicholas Fabris, Jr. of Sevierville, TN; Victoria Fabris of Sevierville, TN; Cameron and Natalie Hinsdale, of IL; Brandon Varney and wife, Megan of Williamson, WV. Great Great-Grandchildren: Joleigh Varney, Emily Wolcott, and Landon Wolcott Numerous wonderful loving nieces and nephews Many wonderful stories of her uncle, Vincent Day, who she cherished as a young girl; and the Day family: Nora Cooper Day, Vincent Day, Mollie Vliet Day, Betty Day, Nancy Day, Johnny Day, Brittian Day were all her beloved family. Special appreciation to nieces, Linda Layne and husband, Doug; Lawrence Effler and wife, Carol, Kathy Effler and husband, McCoy, Kerry Effler; Judy Casteel and husband, Roger; Kathy Nichols; Charlotte Valenzular and husband, Emanuel; Jeanette Gupta and husband, Dave; Ray Arnold; Sandi Pineiro and husband Manny, for the many visits over the years. To niece Marie Goss and Johnny Goss, who she enjoyed seeing. Thank you Stanley Young and wife, Paula. Son-in-law, Ted Jaworski, who she truly loved as her own son, and always encouraged her to step outside her comfort zone and try new things such as boating, skydriving, etc. Thank you Al Fabris, who she could always count on to fix things around the house. Also to Bob Varney of Marion, VA for all your visits. To her sisters, Verna Nichols, Ann Young Mosley, and Ruby McGraw, who were more than her sisters, but also great friends. Especially her sister, Bessie Arnold, who recently passed away. Bessie and Mildred had a truly great friendship. Every Saturday was their shopping day at Ford City Shopping Center in Chicago. Thank you to Louise Shelton for all her prayers and inspirational visits over the years. Special cousins, Cora Steel and Gene Mosley. Ron Nichols, who always made her laugh. Danny Nichols and Drewey Nichols, who have passed, were always in her memories. Other appreciation to M’ledge Cheek, Darlene Yates and Don Wimmer for their kindness shown to Mildred and Jerry over the years; and to Robin Bryant, her companion, and loved like a daughter. Roberta and Carl Tegeler, pastor of the Claypool Hill Bible Church and all the kind people there. Mom we will miss you so much. You were tough on us as your daughters, but thank God you were. We had to live up to your standards which were very high. A funeral service for Mildred Effler Goss will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with Rev. Carl Tegler officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be: Tim Varney, Steve Varney, Rick Nichols, Nicholas Fabris, Braxton Varney, Justin Varney, and Kenny Jaworski. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm on Friday evening at the funeral home.
