Mildred Wilson

Mrs. Mildred R. Wilson, age 88, of Raven, Virginia, passed away Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Mayfair House at Claypool Hill, Virginia following a lengthy illness. She was born in Tazewell County and was the daughter of the late William Luther and Mousie Smith McReynolds. She was lifelong resident of the area and was a former clerk for the Island Creek Coal Company Store at Keen Mountain. She was a talented seamstress, cook, and loved all types of arts and crafts. She was a lifelong member of the Clearview United Methodist Church and was very active in the United Methodist Women. She was very active in the PTA and with the help of two friends, Mildred (Charlie) Wilson and Juanita Price; they established the Lunchroom Program at Raven Elementary. She was a member of the Steelesburg Homemakers Club; the Rebekaha’s Lodge, and assisted with the 4-H Club and the Girl Scouts. She was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1938. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Wilson and two brothers, Claude and Ralph McReynolds. Survivors are: One Daughter: Carole Stivers and husband, John of Auburn, Alabama One Son: David Wilson and wife, Diann of Lexington, South Carolina One Sister: Bettye Adams of Crystal River, Florida One Brother: Billy McReynolds and wife, Helen of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Two Grandchildren: Jeffrey Johnson of Sorrento, Florida and David Wilson, II of Deland, Florida Several nieces and nephews and cousins also survive. Funeral services for Mildred R. Wilson will be conducted Monday, March 9, 2009 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Paul Griffith and Rev. Paul Goshorn officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Family and Men of Clearview United Methodist will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call after 6:00pm Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
