Miles Yates

Mr. Miles Anderson “Rabbit” Yates, age 79, of Lebanon, Virginia, passed away Monday, April 12, 2010 in a Lebanon, Virginia hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Honaker, Virginia and was the son of the late James Edward and Maude Dye Yates. He had made his home in the Lebanon area for the past 19 years and was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service. He worked with Sears Stores for over 20 years in Melbourne, Florida and was a member of the Swords Creek Block Church and a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #251 AF & AM. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 2 brothers. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors are: His Wife: Delcie Dye Yates One Daughter: Karen Waters and husband, Ralph of Laurel, Maryland Two Sons: Kirk Yates and wife, Amy of Toledo, Ohio Keith Yates and wife, Christina of Melbourne, Florida Three Step Daughters: Brenda Stone of Christiansburg, Virginia Wanda Smith of Piney Flats, Tennessee Patricia Jones and fiancé, Jeffrey Holloway of Nashville, Tennessee One Foster Sister: Nina Fields and husband, Doyle of Lebanon, Virginia Seven Grandchildren, Three Step Grandchildren, Two Great Grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Miles Yates will be conducted Friday, April 16, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Carl Robinson, Rev. Dwight Miller, Rev. Steve Perkins, Rev. Bob Yates, and Rev. Carter Wells officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be James Dye, Bobby Joe Dye, Larry Dye, Don Horton, Carl Newberry, and Randall Hess.Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call after 6:00pm Thursday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. Members of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #251 AF & AM will conduct services Thursday evening at 7:30pm. Men of the Swords Creek Block Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
