MIllard Richman Robinette Jr

Millard Richman Robinette, Jr., age 98, of Bluefield, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2023, at home following a lengthy illness. Millard was born in Coeburn, Virginia, on February 12, 1925, and was the son of the late Millard Richman Robinette, Sr., and Martha Lillian Baber Robinette. He was a 1942 graduate of Richlands High School and worked as a coal miner for a while before becoming a store clerk at the A&P store in Richlands. As World War II evolved, Millard was drafted by the Army and was a soldier in the Co 4 2826th Engineer Combat Battalion. He was stationed in Italy, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was trained as a demolition expert and sharpshooter and was awarded several medals. While in the Army, he attended Old Mississippi University, Oxford, and North Carolina State College in Raleigh. After the War, Millard moved to Lexington, Ohio, and later owned several Super Value Super Markets. He loved boating, and his pride and joy was the “Seahorse,” which he puttered around fishing the shores of Lake Erie. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling. He was a quiet, intelligent man who was always positive, funny, and happy. When asked what he wanted people to learn from him, he said, “is always to be positive.” He was a proud member of the American Legion and the Ebenezer Global Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, his sisters, Thelma Louise Selfe, and Alice Elizabeth Rezeau and his brother, Richard K. Robinette. Those that remain to carry on his spirit are his: Loving wife, Sally Robinette of Bluefield, VA Sons: Terry Robinette and his wife, Margaret of Sandusky, OH Don Utterback and his wife, Diane of San Luis Obispo, CA Jeffrey Addison and his wife, Julia, of Land ‘O Lakes, FL Grandchildren: Karle Roth, Konrad Roth, Adrienne Lee, Weston Addison, Grayson Addison. Great-grandchildren, Aidan Lee, and Ava Lee. His dear special friends, Bobby and Jean Joyce. His beloved canine companions, Cricket and Dan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Legacy Hospice, 1963 2nd Street, Richlands, VA 24641, or the Ebenezer Global Methodist Church, 38057 Gov. George C. Peery HWY, Bluefield, VA 24605. The funeral service for Millard Robinette will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, Virginia, with the Rev. Steve Aker officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia. Karle Roth, Conrad Roth, Hyatt Hodgedon, Raymond Mulkey, and Craig Kirk will be pallbearers. A visitation will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Monday until the time of the service. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Casey-Shortt Post #9640.
