Minnie Stewart Spivey

Minnie Stewart Spivey age 94 of Princeton, WV formerly of North Tazewell, VA passed away Monday, March 12, 2018 at The Havens in Princeton WV. She was born July 28, 1923 at Isaban, McDowell County, WV and was the daughter of the late Charles Stewart and Lula Smith Stewart. After graduating from Big Creek High School in McDowell County, WV, she moved to Ashland Kentucky with her family. On January 15, 1952 she married Mervin J. Spivey in Ashland, KY at First Methodist Church with Reverend Frank C. King performing the ceremony. She and Mervin eventually settled in North Tazewell, VA and worked together side by side until they retired. They built Spivey’s Department Store & Discount Center on Riverside Drive and enjoyed many years serving customers in and around Tazewell County. Minnie will be missed by her family that included her sister, sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mervin James Spivey, sisters, Theda Stewart Beavers and Iredith ”Coug” Stewart Mussetter, brother, William Joe Stewart, nieces, Vickie Sue Beavers Lively, Beth Hefner, Cheryl Beavers and Kay Reeser, and nephews, William Joe Stewart, Jr. and Carl Graham “Butch” Mussetter. She is survivors by her sister, Naomi Stewart Davis, her sister-in-law, Dorothy Spivey Hefner, and her nieces and nephews, Jenny Jo Davis Spencer, Deborah Beavers Anderson, Ella Mae Stewart McCulloch, Jonda Lu Davis, Terri Renee Mussetter, Charles David Mussetter, Tiffani Stewart Stafford, Jean Spivey, David Spivey, Janie Hefner Newman, Nancy Bowman, Richard Price, John Price, Linda Robinson, June Spivey Linkous, Jerry Spivey, Bryan Heffner, Kevin Heffner, Carol Sue Zimmerman, Erma O’Maley, Pamela McHugh, Allen Love, Sr., and Janice Barry. Funeral services for Minnie Stewart Spivey will be conducted Sunday, March 18, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Reverend Kenny Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, VA. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 1:00 pm till the funeral hour. .
