Nancy King Cousins

Nancy Lee King Cousins 86, formerly of Tazewell, VA died after a lengthy illness at Danville Regional Medical Center in Danville, VA on October 22, 2008. She was born on May 23, 1922 in Tazewell, VA, the daughter of the late Albert Jefferson king and Sara Rosalie Steele King. She graduated in 1940 form Graham High School in Bluefield, VA. She was married to the late James S. Cousins, Sr. on April 10, 1946. Their union lasted for fifty years. Two sons were born to this union, John William and J. Stanley Cousins, Jr. She was a resident of Philadelphia, PA for over 40 years before relocating to Virginia after retirement. She attended Pierce Business College in Philadelphia and was a former business owner, and worked in bookkeeping for several banks and insurance companies over the years. She was a member of the White Rock Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA where she served in the Woman’s and Missionary circles. She was a member of the Easter Star, the NAACP and active in the cub scouts as a den mother and the neighborhood communities watch programs. She joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Bluefield, WV after her relocation. She moved the Danville to live with her son in 1997, and attended Deeper Life Fellowship in Ringgold, VA until her health declined. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was lovingly cared for by her family for eleven years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John Henry, Alphonso, and Randolph King, on sister, Rosalinda King Gunn and her son, John William. She is survived by her son, Elder J. Stanley Cousins, Jr. of Ringgold, VA. Three daughters-in-law, Norma G. Cousins of Ringgold, VA, Nancy T. Cousins of Philadelphia, PA, and Judy L. Cousins of Palm Springs, FL. One sister, Mary F. Haskins of Ieager, WV, one sister-in-law, Sallie Green of Richmond, VA, Grandchildren, James, Andrew and Aaron Cousins of Danville, VA, Annette Cousins of Philadelphia, PA, Rachel Cousins and Jacob Lopez of Palm Springs, FL. One great granddaughter, Alex C. Cousins of Philadelphia, PA, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. There will be a Graveside service for Nancy L. Cousins Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery, Tazewell, VA with Elder J. Stanley Cousins officiating. The family will receive friend and family at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home of Tazewell, VA Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
