Nina Jean Hicks

Nina Jean Hicks age 86 of Raven, Virginia passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at the Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. Nina was born July 26, 1938, in Freeman, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Frank Wolford and Virgie Wolford. She was a faithful Christian of the Holiness faith and a member of the Harvest Outreach Church, where she was affectionately known as "Mother of the Church." Nina was kind and had a very loving soul; she would do anything for her family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and had devoted her life to being a homemaker. Nina lived most of her life in Buchanan County. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, John D. Hicks, her son, Jackie Hicks, grandson, Jacob Tyler Hicks, and great-grandson Jacob O’Neil Bayse, along with several siblings. Those who survive her are: Daughters: Kathleen Keen of Oakwood, VA Peggy Church and her husband Pete of Oakwood, VA Barbara Vandyke of Richlands, VA Sons: Bobby Hicks and his wife, Teresa of Clifton Fork, VA Richard Hicks of Richlands, VA Johnny Hicks of Claypool Hill, VA Christopher Hicks and his wife, Patricia of Clifton Fork, VA Her pride and joy, her six grandchildren: Jeanette Vasi of Richlands, VA Michael Church and his spouse Kristen of Whitewood, VA Kenneth Vandyke of Richlands, VA Joseph Hicks of Clifton Fork, VA Heather Vandyke of Richlands, VA Keshia Church of Oakwood, VA She was a devoted Great-grandmother of five: Tristan Whitt, Heaven Vandyke, Wyatt Church, Payton Vasi, and Tanner Church. The funeral for Nina Jean Hicks will be private with Rev. Brenda Blankenship officiating. Her family and her church members only attending. Interment will follow at the White-Jewell Cemetery on White Mtn., near Jewell Valley, Virginia. Pallbearers will be her family, the final act of our love for our beautiful mother.
