Norma "Sue" Ward

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Norma “Sue” Ward, age 84, following a brief illness. Sue was born on February 10, 1941, in Whitewood, Virginia, and was the daughter of the late, Mervin B. Farmer and Vivian Compton Farmer. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Norma Sue Ward was a sweet, caring, and gentle spirit. She loved to laugh and was always quick to tell a good story about her days running the office at Whitewood High School. She loved dogs, especially her poodle “Little Molly”. In her younger days, she would pass the time by doing “Japanese Bunka” with her mother, or she could be found doing aerobics with family and friends. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren, and she was an avid reader. In her later years, she became an avid fan of word search books, usually completing several books a month. She enjoyed watching Andy Griffith and the Golden Girls. She also enjoyed spending time with her church family at King’s Vineyard Ministries. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family alike with a good story. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, James Ward; brother, Danny Farmer, and step-daughter, Tina Ward. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Those who are left to cherish her memory are: Her son, Christopher Neil Ward, and his wife, Lisa of Cedar Bluff, VA Step-sons, Terry Ward and wife, Amanda of Matewan, WV Troy Ward and wife, Rosie of Damascus, VA Grandchildren: John (Toni) Ward, Michael Ward, Hannah Ward, Whitley Wagner, Tanner Wagner, Frankie (John) Scott, Jasmine Ward, Troy James (Michaela) Ward, Andrew Stiltner, Brandon (Katie) Stiltner, David Mooney, Zachary Arnold. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and a host of special nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Norma “Sue” Ward will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Pastor Jamie Steffey and Randy Keen officiating. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Richard Ward, Vester Ward, Brian Ward, Donald Ward, Patrick Stiltner, and John Justus will be pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Christian and grandsons. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00- 9:00 pm at the funeral home.
