Ocie Byrd

Mrs. Ocie Mae Pruitt Byrd, age 83, of the Brown Mountain section of Jewell Ridge, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday, April 24, 2010 in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. She was born in Jewell Ridge and was the daughter of the late George Edward Pruitt and Mary Delilah White Pruitt Hagerman. Ocie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She was a lifelong resident of the Jewell Ridge area and was of the Holiness Faith and attended church at the Richlands Tabernacle.. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis K. Byrd; one daughter, Connie Z. Byrd; two sisters, Georgia Lee Pruitt and Molly Hagerman Willhite; and three brothers, Paul, James, and Rev. Curtis Pruitt. Those left behind to carry on her loving spirit are: One Son: Larry E. Byrd and wife, Linda of Jewell Ridge, Virginia with whom she had made her home for the past nine years. Two Daughters: Sandra McGlothlin of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Rita Musick and husband, Dennis of Pounding Mill, Virginia One Son in Law: Winfred McGlothlin of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Two Sisters: Gracie Hess of Richlands, Virginia Maudie Allen of Richlands, Virginia Three Brothers: John Pruitt of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Rufus Pruitt of Richlands, Virginia Roger Pruitt of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and three great- great -grandchildren also survive her along with a host of wonderful friends and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services of Ocie Mae Pruitt Byrd will be conducted at 11:00am, Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. David Horton and Rev. Mike Altizer officiating. Interment will follow at the Brown Family Cemetery on Brown Mountain near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Nursing Staffs of the Second and Fourth Floor at Clinch Valley Medical Center.
