Paul Clayton Christian, age 82 of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 21, 2015 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Russell County, Virginia and was the son of the late John Franklin Christian and Queen Violet Newberry Christian, both former Russell County natives. Paul was a retired coal miner having formerly worked for Island Creek Coal Company. He enjoyed gardening, raising goats and spending time with those he loved. He was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by Nola's daughter, Beverly Brown, and Nola's son, Gary Gross, his sister Marie Dye and three brothers, Kenneth Christian, Bill Christian and Roger Christian. He is survived by: The love of his life for the last 45 years, Nola Gross of Swords Creek, VA Sons Keith Christian of Amelia, VA Dwight Christian of Bristol, VA Daughter: Patsy White and husband, James of Oak Ridge, TN Nola’s Children Who he dearly loved as his own: Jerry Gross of Leesville, SC Andy Gross of Barboursville, VA Billy Arnold of Whitmyer, SC Barbara Johnson of Leesville, SC Cheryl Arnold-Hale of Bluefield, WV Grandchildren, Monica Kilfoyle and husband, Brandon of Nashville, TN Nicole Brown and Cody Brown of the home and Thirteen others. Sister, Shirley Taylor of Shelbiana, KY Sister in Law, Peggy Christian of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Brother-in-law, Harold Dye of Knoxville, TN Special caretakers, Gladys White and Legacy Hospice. Numerous great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends also survive. Funeral Services for Paul Clayton Christian will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dennis White and Minister Scottie Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Christian family cemetery located on Robinson Ridge in the Swords Creek area. Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be Glen White, Pablo Cruise, Kelly Hill, Larry Hall, Ronnie Hall and Glen Deel. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6-9 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA.
