Paul Whittington

Paul Wayne Whittington went to be with the Lord on the evening of June 4, 2011 in Pounding Mill, Virginia. He passed away at his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones, after his courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born in Independence, Virginia and was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Reed. He was employed by Consol Energy and worked at Buchanan #1 in Vansant, Virginia prior to his illness. Wayne took pride in his work and keeping his co-workers safe underground every day. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, and friend who was loved by many. He loved the Lord and showed it through his kindness and joy to his loved ones and strangers alike. He especially loved making music, taking care of his pets, fishing, and sharing laughter with family and friends over a good cup of coffee. In addition to his mother, Wayne is preceded in death by his wife of thirty years, Shirley Jean Kinder Whittington. Survivors are: His Loving Wife: Donna Lawson Whittington Two daughters: Jennifer Whittington of Lexington, Kentucky Meagan Whittington Roberts and husband Jeremy Roberts, of Pounding Mill, Virginia Two brothers: Thomas Whittington and his wife Patricia Whittington of Richlands, Virginia William “Billy” Reed and friend Pamela Fain, of Princeton, West Virginia Wayne is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, all of whom he loved dearly. Funeral services for Paul Wayne Whittington will be conducted Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Monte Elswick and Danny Houchins officiating. Interment will follow at Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Danny Houchins, Jeremy Roberts, William “Billy” Reed, Robert “Bob” Tatum, Scotty Lawson, Farley Cantrell, Rick Keen, and Darrell Johnson. Friends may call after 6:00pm Tuesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
