Peggy Ann Bandy Altizer

Peggy Ann Bandy Altizer, age 84, of Richlands, VA, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 24, 2025 at Commonwealth Assisted Living in Cedar Bluff, VA, surrounded by her family. Peggy was born on June 4, 1940 in Richlands, VA and was the daughter of the late George A. Bandy, Sr., and Mary Lucille Phillips Bandy. She lived her entire life in Richlands and was a graduate of Richlands High School Class of 1958. She met the love of her life, Jack Altizer, and married him on May 20, 1960. They were married for almost 52 years. Peggy worked for many years as a kindergarten aid at Raven Elementary School where she enjoyed the children that she came in contact with. Later, Peggy joined her husband Jack in the daily operations of the family business, Dominion Supply, INC. She served as secretary/bookkeeper for 30 years. Peggy was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Hill Creek Baptist Church her entire life and served as Secretary/Treasurer, among other church positions (Sunday School Teacher, Bible School, Choir, Women’s Missions). She also worked in various roles with Girl and Boy Scouts, 4-H, Richlands Girls Little League and being a band chaperone while her children were growing up. Peggy never met a stranger that she didn’t like and could talk to anyone she met for hours. In the hottest parts of the day, you could find her in her large vegetable garden working with the vegetables so she could later can everything she had grown. She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Besides loving The Lord and her family, she loved ice cream, donuts, and a good cup of coffee. In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her infant son, Jack Gregory Altizer. Peggy is survived by: Daughter, Robin Brown (Randy) of Cedar Bluff, VA Son, Andy Altizer (Christi) of Abingdon, VA Grandchildren: Sydney Altizer Gordon (Dave) of Concord, NC Savanna Altizer (Chelsea) of Raleigh, NC Caleb Altizer (Raina) of Aurora, CO Samuel Brown of Cedar Bluff, VA Great-Grandchild, Jax Gordon Step-Grandchild, Randolph (Patty) Brown Step-Great-Grandchildren: Isaiah Gordon, Lexie and Alyssa Brown Sister, Sue Bandy Smith Brother, George (Vera) Bandy, Jr. Sister-In-Law, Terri Howery (Rodney) Several Nieces and Nephews Special Friend, Jackie Richardson The family would like to thank all of the employees of Commonwealth Assisted Living in Cedar Bluff and Helping Hands Hospice for their excellent, loving care for Peggy while she was with them. Funeral services for Peggy Ann Bandy Altizer will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with the Reverend Jim Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Samuel Brown, Caleb Altizer, Brian Cooke, Rodney Howery, Joey Altizer, J.R. Pitzer, Donnie Wade, Howard Pyles, and John Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Randy Brown, Frazier Joyce, John Altizer, Dave Gordon, Pete Altizer, Johnny Buskill, Gene Hurst, Jr., and the men of the Hill Creek Baptist Church. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6-9 PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
