Preston Canady,

Preston McGrady Canady, Sr., age 75 of Tazewell, VA died Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center in Bluefield, WV. He was born April 18, 1936 at Beckley, WV and was a son of the late Glen Preston and Lillian Gertrude Thomas Canady. Mr. Canady was a proud graduate of Shady Springs High School, and was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. Preston worked for many years as a Federal Mine Inspector with the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Preston was a former member of the North Tazewell Lions Club and was a man who enjoyed playing golf, and fishing. He loved watching baseball, especially his Atlanta Braves. Preston was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Tazewell Baptist Church. He loved his family, his grandbabies, and his friends. He will be sorely missed by those who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Glen Edward Canady; one sister, Janet Canady. Those left to cherish his memories include, his loving wife of forty-eight years, Gloria J. Canady; two daughters, Valerie Stilwell and husband, Terry of Baptist Valley, VA and Jennifer Kinser and husband, Jason of Tazewell, VA; three sons, Preston M. Canady, Jr. and wife, Rebecca of Bluefield, VA, David M. Canady and wife, Michelle of Charleston, WV, and Benjamin J.W. Canady of the home in Tazewell, VA; three sisters, Ann Lopez and Ginger Lester and husband, Tony all of Beckley, WV and Cindy Ridgeway and husband, Bob of Lewisburg, WV; four brothers, David Canady of Dixon, IL, Jerry Canady and wife, Judy of IL, Kenny Canady and wife, Linda and Gary Canady and wife, Ginger, all of Beckley, WV; a special friend who was like a brother to him, Raymond Brown and wife, Nancy of Richlands, VA; special granddaughter, Brittney Gillespie of Baptist Valley, VA; thirteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends also survive. Funeral services for Preston McGrady Canady, Sr. will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Reverend Robert Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Terry Stilwell, Sr., Terry Stilwell, Jr., Jason Kinser, Jayson Canady, Glen Canady, Craig Canady and Jason Gillespie. Honorary pallbearers will be Raymond Brown and Johnny Griffith. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2011.
