Priscilla Altizer Russ

Priscilla Altizer Russ, 81, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2021, at her home following a fearless battle with cancer. Pris was born on September 20, 1940, in Raven and was the daughter of the late Claude Taylor and Helen Gillespie Mullen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Brittain Russ, her former husband, Joseph W. “Joe Bill” Altizer, her sister, Judy Wnoroski and husband David, her brother, Claude T. “Buzz” Mullen, Jr. and her son, Jeffrey W. Altizer. She is survived by her sons, Joseph W. “Joey” Altizer II and wife Tracy of Roanoke, VA; John W. Altizer and wife Oyuna of Macau, China, and Jeremy W. Altizer of Richlands; grandchildren Kaelie, Hannah, Bobby, Johnny and Priscilla, more of a daughter than a niece, Kimberly Robbins. Pris began her professional career at Cook Associates CPA Services in Richlands. She transitioned to Household Executive for several years working part time before reentering the workforce at Cumberland Mountain Community Services, where she retired after a fulfilling career. Her colleagues at Cumberland Mountain were a second family to her. For many years, she baked and decorated cakes for every occasion known to man, which served countless homes in Tazewell County and beyond. She was “Mom” to any friend her boys brought through the door. Known for her sharp wit and honesty, she valued her countless friendships as an invaluable treasure. Her kind heart drove a willingness to sacrifice and help anyone in need as her door was always open. She was a member of the Red Hat Society (Queen Mother of the Richlands chapter), and the First United Methodist Church of Richlands and served on the Richlands Garden Club and the Planning Commission. The family would like to thank and honor the dedicated staff of Legacy Hospice and special lifetime friends Peggy and Robin Smith for their amazing care and love. A memorial service for Pris and her son Jeremey will be held at Saturday, July 15, 2023 at 11:00am at the Richlands First Methodist Church in Richlands, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made in Pris’s honor to JDRF or the American Cancer Society.
