Quenton Elkins

Mr. Quenton Elkins, age 86 of Richlands, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 6th, 2004 at the Golden Age Retirement Center at Claypool Hill, Virginia following a lengthy illness. He was born in Russell County, Virginia and was a son of the late Dave C. and Leona Strouth Elkins, both Russell County natives. He was a life long resident of the Richlands area, was a retired miner with Jewell Ridge Coal Corp. at Jewell Ridge, Virginia and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local #1760 of Seaboard, Virginia. He was former owner and operator of Driver Sales and Service, Lonesome Pine Auto Parts and Elkins Wrecker Service in Richlands. Mr. Elkins was a World War II U. S. Navy Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Willie E. Lowe Elkins, two sisters, Edna Robinson and Irene White; also, one brother, Winfred Elkins. Survivors are: Two Sons: Mr. Donald L. Elkins and wife, Jean of Steelesburg, Virginia Mr. Bob Elkins and wife, Gayle of Raven, Virginia Two Sisters: Mrs. Della Picklesimmer and husband, Hubert of Swords Creek, Virginia Mrs. Zelma White and husband, Troy of Swords Creek, Virginia One Brother, Mr. Clarence Elkins of Swords Creek, Virginia Three Grandchildren: Bobbie Elkins and wife, Crystal, Karen Elkins, and Donna Honeycutt and husband, Chris Six Great Grandchildren: Kayla Elkins, Tanner Elkins, Nikki Elkins, Lauren Honeycutt, Tiarra Elkins, and Logan Honeycutt. Funeral services for Mr. Quenton Elkins will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Buddy Herald officiating. Entombment will follow in the Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery Mausoleum in Richlands, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Bobbie Elkins, Chris Honeycutt, Earl Sargent, Tom Sargent, Chris Pruitt, Joey Honeycutt, Wink Brown, and Tommy Short. Honorary pallbearers: Sam Barnette, Monroe Pruett, Emory Short, Lloyd Lawson, Fred Carner, Don Horton, Jack Sykes, Jack Altizer, Raymond Johnson, and Residents and Employees of Golden Age Retirement Center.
