Rachel Brown Martin

Rachel Angeline Brown Martin, age 80 of Richlands, Virginia passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands. She was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Robert Eli and Angeline Mutter Brown. She was a lifelong resident of the Richlands area. Rachel loved taking Sunday rides and looking at the scenery. She also loved going on family vacations to the beach every year. Her favorite pastimes were gardening and farming, which she enjoyed doing for most of her life. She also liked working “find a word” puzzle books. Her home was a gathering place for friends and family throughout the years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Martin, Jr.; one brother, Joseph B. Brown and two sons-in-law, Troy L. Sparks, Sr. and Danny L. Altizer. She is survived by: Two Daughters: Peggy Ann Sparks of Richlands, Virginia Cora Marie Altizer and companion, Doug Ball of Richlands, Virginia One Son, Steve Alan Martin and wife, Wanda of Richlands, Virginia Sister, Louise Simmons and husband, Herman of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Sister-in-Law, Helen Brown of Baptist Valley, Virginia Four Granddaughters: Rachel Louise Altizer John and husband, Travis Sarah Michelle Altizer Mullins and husband, Michael Sabrina Mae Martin Earls and husband, Craig Miranda Leigh Martin Boardwine and husband, Jon One Grandson, Troy L. Sparks, Jr. “T.J.” One Step Granddaughter, Donna E. Smith Gillespie and husband, Danny One Step Grandson, David E. Smith and wife, Zeusa Three Great Granddaughters, Four Great Grandsons, Two Step Great Grandchildren, Two Step Great Great-Grandchilren Special thanks to the Staff and Employees of Home Nursing Company Funeral Services for Rachel Angeline Brown Martin will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Danny Houchins and Rev. Thomas Stranger officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
