Raymond Hal Johnson

Raymond Hal Johnson, of Richlands, Virginia, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 at the age of 69 at Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands, Virginia. He was born on October 14, 1947 and was the son of the late Ralph and Margaret Crigger Johnson. Raymond attended First Assembly of God Church in Richlands, Virginia. He was a hardworking man all of his life. He worked as a wrecker driver and mechanic for Mullins Ford and Dominion Supply of Richlands. Raymond never shied away from work. He was a selfless man, who always put others before himself and lent a hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed working, mowing the grass, attending his grandchildren’s activities and spending time with his family and friends. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a stranger to no one and a friend to all. His laughter was contagious. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant brother Kelly Johnson. Raymond was an extremely loving brother, husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Juanita Johnson; sons, Tony Johnson and wife Robin and Jeff Johnson, both of Richlands; daughters, Jennifer Lowe and husband Gary and Melonie Gilbert and husband Donnie, both of Cedar Bluff; grandchildren, Jared and Noah Lowe, Dillion Johnson, Miranda and Tiffany Johnson, Isaac and Izzy Gilbert; great-grandchildren, Kira Vance and Kaliyah Johnson. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Whitt and husband Herman of Ashland, Virginia; Sarah Sluss and husband Joe of Grey, Tennessee; Rebecca Wade of Cumming, Georgia; and Betty Lane of Jonesborough, Tennessee; his brothers, Ken Johnson and wife Sarah of Abingdon, Virginia; Danny Johnson and wife Linda of Salem, Virginia as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. A special thank you to Dr. Bidros, Becky, Julian and Tina; to his chemo gang, Sharon, Deana, Penny, Linda, and Chad; to the radiology, surgery, respiratory, lab, registration staff and to the rest of the staff of Clinch Valley Medical Center. Your kindness and loving care will never be forgotten. Funeral services for Raymond Hal Johnson will be conducted Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Buddy Herald officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens of Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers include Jared and Noah Lowe, Isaac Gilbert, Dean Slate, Pete Altizer and Sandy Richardson. Honorary pallbearers include Andy Altizer, Ronnie “Buckwheat” Coleman, Jim Tatum, Ernie Walk, and Randall “Dick” Hill, and all of Raymond’s former co-workers and lifetime friends. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 p.m at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
