Raymond Phillips

Raymond F. Phillips, 84, of Hickory, North Carolina formerly of North Tazewell, Virginia passed away Thursday, July 31, 2008 in Hickory. He was born November 6, 1923 in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late Charlie C. and Emily Cauldwell Phillips, both former Tazewell County, Virginia natives. He has spent his entire life in Tazewell County until moving eleven years ago to Hickory, North Carolina. He served his country with the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater and was a member of the Barns-Beavers Post #7136 in Tazewell. He was a retired coal miner with 38 years for Consol and was a member of Local #6025 in Bishop. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Conover, North Carolina and had previously attended Dailey’s Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by Sisters, Tracy Pruitt and Edith Smith; and Brothers, Bill and Howard Phillips Those who survive him are His Loving Wife of 62years, Margaret L. Phillips Daughter Gail Johnson and husband, Gordon of Hickory, North Carolina Sons Charles Phillips and wife, Starlett of Tazewell, Virginia Raymond Phillips and wife, Hazel of Tazewell, Virginia Sister Jean Waters of Bluefield, West Virginia Grandsons Danny Phillips and wife, Shirley of Tazewell, Virginia Tom Phillips and wife, Lavonne of North Tazewell,VA Brian Phillips and wife, Stephoney of Tazewell, Virginia Granddaughters Angie Jenkins and husband, Derrick of Merritt Island, Florida Jennifer Hawkins and husband, Jeff of Charlotte, North Carolina Step-Grandsons Greg Money and wife, Karen of Roanoke, Virginia Jeff Johnson of Minot, North Dakota Eric Johnson and wife, Maryria of Hickory, North Carolina Twelve Great-Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services for Raymond Phillips will be conducted at 11:00am Monday, August 4, 2008 at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, Virginia with the Rev. J.C. Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Virginia. Family and Friends will serve as Pallbearers. Members of Barns-Beavers Post #7136 will conduct military graveside rites.
