Retta Ellen Meredith

Proverbs 31:31 “Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.” Isaiah 66:13 As one whom his mother comforteth, so will I comfort you; and ye shall be comforted in Jerusalem. Retta Ellen Meredith, born September 21, 1953, departed this life onto her heavenly home with Jesus on April 20, 2023. She was the baby daughter of the late William “Bill” Edward Meredith and Norma Jean Roberts Meredith. She was the granddaughter of the late James and Rosa Lee Jones Roberts and the late Howard Amos Meredith and the late Cecelia Vogel Meredith Griffith and French Griffith. Retta was born in Buckhannon, West Virginia and attended Caretta Elementary, Welch Elementary, Havaco Elementary, Romney Elementary, and Hampshire High School. She was a true West Virginia fan and bled Blue and Gold. She was a dedicated homemaker who loved her family unconditionally and enjoyed spending time with her family. Retta is survived by her: Two daughters: Tammy Hess and husband, Rev. Ronnie Hess of Tazewell, VA Catherine Cathy Jean Collins of Raven, VA Her son, her baby, whom she made her home with, Eddie Franklin Pyles of Richlands, VA Her only granddaughter, Meredith Lindsie Gillespie and her husband, Mason of Pounding Mill, VA Grandsons: James C. Collins, Jr. of Richlands, VA; James Robert Lawson and Matthew Ryan Lawson, both of Tazewell, VA; Great grandchildren: Her “little man “who was her pride and joy, Harold Isaac Junior Collins of Raven, VA; Christopher Daniel Meadows and William Samuel ray Meadows; Meredith Grace Gillespie of Pounding Mill, VA; and Maverick Lee Corbin Lawson of Tazewell, VA Her only sister, Cecilia Barber and husband, Dallas “Butch” of Richlands, VA Her big brother, William “Billy” Meredith and wife, Dorothy “Dot” of Jacksonville, NC The father of her children, Harold “Gomer” Pyles One step great-granddaughter, three step great-great grandchildren also survive along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. The funeral service for Retta Ellen Meredith will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Craig Barber, Rev. Otis Musick and Brother Mike McClure officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bluefield, West Virginia. Grandsons and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will begin receiving friends at 6:00 pm on Tuesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
