Rev. Ward

Rev. Thomas Loyd Ward age 77, of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 1, 2009 in Bristol, Tennessee following a lengthy illness. He was born in Whitewood, VA and was the son of the late Sidney and Carrie Stevenson Ward and was raised by Luther and Cordie Vandyke. He had served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict . He was a coal miner and worked for General Motors for 10 years. His calling in life was to be a man of God and he was Pastor for Shiloh Temple for 18 years and was an associate pastor at Souls Harbor. He spent most of his life in the Pilgrims Knob area in Whitewood. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is the last survivor of the Sidney Ward Clan. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by seven sisters, four brothers and one great grandchild, Kyle Cook. Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His loving wife, Olga “Vickie” Ward of Pilgrims Knob, VA His daughters: Freda Sweeney and husband Vincent of Pilgrims Knob, VA Barbara Carter and husband Dr. Kevin Carter of Thompson Valley, VA Priscilla Clendenin of Florence, SC Four Sons: Rev. Timmy Ward and wife Lisa of Cedar Bluff, VA Rev. Billy Ward and wife Charlene of Thompson Valley, VA Terry Ward of Richlands, VA Phillip Ward and wife Elaine of Cedar Bluff, VA Sister, Barbara Jean Meadows Eleven Grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends also survive him. Funeral services for Rev. Thomas Ward will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Souls Harbor Church in Rosedale, VA with the Bishop Jack Keene, and Rev Billy Ray Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at the Tom Ward Family cemetery located in Pilgrims Knob, VA . Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers and Honorary pallbearers will be all ministers of Local Churches. A military graveside service will performed by the Casey Shortt VFW Post# 9640. A visitation will be held Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, VA from 6 – 9 pm and a short service will be held with the Rev’s Jack, Billy and Timmy Ward officiating. A second Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6 – 9 pm at Souls harbor Church in Rosedale, VA with the Rev. Frank Lester officiating.
