Richard Lee Conner

Richard “Papa” Lee Conner, age 75, of Abingdon, Virginia passed away on December 6, 2025 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born July 22,1949, in Charleston, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Gaylord Glen Conner Sr. and Norma Nettles Conner. He served as Military Police in the United States Army from 1969 -1972. Following his time in the service he moved to Richlands, Virginia where he met the love of his life, his late wife, Velma Grove Conner. Richard was a long-time resident of Richlands, Virginia where he enjoyed serving as past Master of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge, as a Shriner, owner of Adam & Eve clothing store with Velma, working for Island Creek Coal Company (Consol) and then retiring from American Electric Power (AEP). Richard loved going to the beach and playing golf with family and special friends. Richard was an avid learner – he was the first recipient to complete a Bachelor of Business Administration from Old Dominion University at Southwest Virginia Community College. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Grove Conner; and one brother, Glen Conner. Survivors include his daughter: Tina Conner of Abingdon, Virginia Grandchildren: Courtney Stringer and husband, Chad, of Abingdon, Virginia; Hayleigh Davis and husband, Dylan, of Kingsport, Tennessee; Hayden Whited and fiancé Emma Matney of Johnson City, Tennessee Great grandson: Conner Bret Stringer Beloved dog: Bella Sister: Loretta Sargent and husband, Irvin, of Waverly, West Virginia Brother: Gary Conner and wife, Rose, of Longs, South Carolina Sister-In-Law: Margaret Conner, of Williamson, West Virginia Funeral services will be conducted at 2 pm on Monday, December 9, 2024 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Pastor Doug Allen officiating. Entombment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, Virginia. A visitation will take place from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 AF & AM will conduct services. Pallbearers include: Seth Grove, Todd Whited, Darrell Harman, Darren Harman, Joel Norris, and Mack Brown Honorary pallbearers: Ronnie Grove, Bill Horn and Jim Tatum The family would like to extend a sincere gratitude of appreciate to James H.
