Robert Bob) Elswick

Robert M. (Mr. Bob) Elswick, 87, of the Cove section in Tazewell, Virginia was surrounded by his loving family as he went home to be with the lord, Wednesday, January 23, 2008, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Bob was born in Tazewell and was the son of the late John Henry (Jack) and Nannie Patrick Elswick, former Tazewell natives. He was a retired farmer who loved tending his land and crops. Mr. Bob was gentle hearted and would always have a kind word and a smile for everyone he met. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country during World War II, he had attended the Riverside United Methodist Church in North Tazewell and was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Juanita Pruett Elswick, sisters Grace Hall and Mary Marrs; brothers Stewart (Pood), William (Bill), Archie and James (Slim) Elswick. Those who remain to carry on his spirit are: His daughters: Glenna M. Elswick of Tazewell, VA Martha Jewell and husband David of Litchfield, Ohio Loretta Baldwin of Tazewell, VA Abby Miller and husband Doug of Abingdon, VA Anita Freeman of Reidsville, NC Son, Robert E. (Eddie) Smith of Tannersville, VA Special grandson and best buddy, Matthew Elswick of Tazewell, VA Sister, Louise Brown of Tazewell, VA Brothers: Roy Elswick of Tazewell, VA Walter (Brownie) Elswick of Tazewell, VA Special friends: Bertie Elswick, Wanda Miller, Wanda Martin, Donna Stevens and Cecelia Thompson. Also surviving him are Eight Grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many friends and family who will truly miss him. Funeral services for Robert M. (Mr. Bob) Elswick will be at 1:00pm on Friday, January 25, 2008 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, Virginia with his grandson Rick Stiltner and Rev. Kenneth Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, VA. Pallbearers will be Larry J. (Jamie) Smith, Doug Miller, Joshua W. Miller, Matthew L. Elswick, Steve Strock and David Jewell. Honorary pallbearers will be, Ralph Puckett, Lucas Stiltner and Eddie Smith. The Barns Beavers VFW Post # 7136 of Tazewell, Virginia will conduct graveside military rites. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6 - 9 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Tazewell, Virginia.
