Robert "Bob" Joe Wade

Robert “Bob” Joe Wade, age 79, departed this life on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in Lebanon, VA. He was born in Marvin, VA on July 6, 1938 to the late Marvin and Samantha Whitt Wade. Bob joined the U.S. Navy in July of 1955 where he served until his retirement in July of 1975. During his service years, he was the recipient of five Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Navy Meritorious Medal Unit Commendation Ribbon and a Navy Air Crewmen Wings. After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Bob moved his family to Tazewell County, where he became active in local politics. Bob served as Supervisor of the Western District of Tazewell County for eight years, the Tazewell County Airport Authority Board for four years, the Tazewell Public Service Authority Board for one year, and the Cumberland Plateau Planning Board for four years. Bob drove a bus for Tazewell County Public Schools for several years and he was instrumental in the startup of the Good Samaritan Food Pantry. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by four brothers, James, Thurman, Winford & Emory “Mule “Wade. He is survived by: His loving wife, Patricia Jessee Wade of Pounding Mill, VA His three sons: James Gray Wade and wife, Tresa of Paintlick, VA Darryl Lee Wade of Pounding Mill, VA Michael Lynn Wade and wife, Pat of Pounding Mill, VA Sister, Peggy Farmer and husband, Hassel of Ohio Five grandchildren: Joey Wade and wife, Brittany; Shawn Wade and wife, Heather; Samantha “Sami” Wade and fiancé, Evan Elswick; Darryl L. Wade, Jr; and Christiana L. Wade. Great grandchild, Luke Wade Special little buddy, Legend Several nieces, nephews and a host of family and friends also survive him. Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Joe Wade will be conducted on Monday, November 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Buddy McGlothlin officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be, Brandon Wade, Greg Wade, Gilmer Wade, Ron Wade, Joey Wade, Brian Martin and Shawn Wade. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Memorial contributions may be made to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry; 106 Veterans Drive; Richlands, VA 24641. The family will receive friends after 6:00pm on Sunday evening at the funeral home.
