Rev. Robert Jackson Osborne

Robert (Bob) Jackson Osborne, age 89 years and 4 months, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, entered his heavenly home on Friday, August 25, 2023 from an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. He was born April 25, 1934 in Russell County, at Putman, Virginia and was the son of the late Horace Greely Osborne and Rhoda Crouse Osborne. He served in the US Navy, serving on the ship USS Colahan DD658 as a morse code radioman. He was awarded the United Nations Service Medal; Korean Service Medal; China Service Medal; and the Good Conduct Service Medal. After his military discharge he worked for the N&W Railway. Robert has spent most of his life in Tazewell County and was the associate pastor of the Richlands Tabernacle for the past 58 years. Robert ministered and taught the Adult Bible Class for over 50 years. Robert was a prince of a man having dedicated his life to God, the Bible, his Church, and his Family. Robert was very talented and had a photographic mind and had committed most of the New Testament to Memory and a lot of the Old Testament. He would often begin a sermon by quoting an entire chapter from the Bible. People would often follow along in their Bible to see if he missed a word….but he never did. He spent many hours in prayer, studying God’s Word, and visiting the sick. He shared books with many ministers. Robert was a quiet, humble, but mighty man. His life was a light and blessing to many. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Horton Osborne; and one daughter, Sarah Osborne; brothers, Buster Osborne and Wayne Osborne; one sister, Linda Boyd; brothers-in-law, Rev. Ralph Horton, Don Horton, Mack Horton, Rufus Ray, Dan Jennelle, Junior Cordle, Lawrence Boyd, and Danny Hess; sisters in law, Brenda Horton, Frances Osborne, and Renee Horton; and also by in fathers and mothers in law, Rev. Grat and Chorldia Horton and Fonnie and Elihue Hess. Survivors: His Beloved Wife of 34 years: Kathleen Hess Osborne Daughters: Beth Skinner and her husband, Larry of Bristol, TN Rebecca Harman and her husband, Michael of Bristol, TN Deborah Wyatt and her husband, Jeff of Bluffton, Indiana Six Grandchildren: Thomas Harman, Anna Harman, Jackson Skinner and wife, Mary all of Bristol, TN; Taylor Skinner of Knoxville, TN; Grace Sommerfeld and husband, Ethan of Bluffton, Indiana; and Gabriel Wyatt and wife, Marie of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Great Grandchildren: Emmett Skinner, Magnolia Skinner, Elliana Sommerfeld Sister: Jean Lester and husband, Joe of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Sisters in Law: Dottie Osborne of Richlands, Virginia; Anna Ruth Vandyke of Honaker, Virginia; Doris Horton, Naomi Ray, Shirley Horton, Patricia Jennelle, Sharon Roberts, and Mozelle Cordle all of Richlands, Virginia Brothers in Law: Rev. Phillip Horton and wife, Carolyn; Rev. David Horton, Rev. James Horton and wife, Greta; and Rev. Gary Hess and wife, Brenda Funeral services for Rev. Robert (Bob) Osborne will be conducted on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 6:00 pm at the Richlands Tabernacle Church, 2505 Third Street, Richlands, Virginia 24641 with Rev. Neal Bridges, Rev. Phillip Horton, Rev. Cody Harman, and Rev. David Horton officiating. Friends may call at the Richlands Tabernacle on Sunday evening from 5 pm until 6 pm. Graveside committal services will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. James Horton and Rev. James Vance officiating. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Grandsons, sons-in-law, and friends will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend are asked to line up by 12:30 p.m. at the Richlands Tabernacle to join the procession to the cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brian McGraw, Rev. Steve Kiser, Rev.
