Roger Short

Roger Lee Short, age 52 of Raven, Virginia, passed away at his home Friday evening, March 30, 2007 following a lengthy illness. Roger was the son of the late John Alden and Lovis Reavy Horn Short, they were both Buchanan County natives. He had attended Whitewood High School, was a disabled coal miner and was a lifetime native of the Buchanan and Tazewell County areas. He loved to go camping and fishing, and enjoyed his trips to the beach with his family. Roger was well known for his smile, and good natured personality, and he was always tinkering on an automobile for someone else of himself. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be truly missed by all knew and loved him. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Roger Osborne. Those who survive him are: His loving wife of 24 years, Peggy Carol Walters Short of Raven, Virginia His daughters: Catherine "Katie" Lovis Short Osborne and husband Jason Lee, Sr., of Raven, Virginia Bridgett Quinley of Bradshaw, WV Cassie Marie Byrd and husband Kenny of Honaker, VA Sons: Kenneth Aaron Smith and wife Pamela of Kodak, TN Jamie Lee Short of the Home Grandsons: Jason Lee Osborne, Jr., Cody Lee Osborne and Ethan Lee Quinley Sisters: Ellen J. Horn and husband Grady of Raven, Virginia Pearl Osborne and husband Melvin of Richlands, Virginia Ruby Osborne of Mavisdale, Virginia Marie Smith and husband Melvin Stanley of Doran, Virginia Brothers: Rev. Dannie Short and wife Inamae of Claypool Hill, Virginia Louis Short and wife Carol of Doran, Virginia Johnny Short of Cedar Bluff, Virginia James Junior Short and wife Faye of Doran, Virginia Paul Short and wife Brenda of Doran, Virginia Sister-in-law, Sharon Ferrell and husband Raymond of Raven, Virginia Brother-in-law, Cliff Walters, who is serving in Iraq and his wife Debbie Belton Walters of Texas. A host of Nieces, Nephews, Family and friends also survive him. Funeral services for Roger Lee Short will be held on Monday, April 2, 2007 at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dannie Short officiating. Interment will follow at the Hankins Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Jackie Horn, Chris Short, Wayne Short, Eddie Royal, Raymond Deskins, David Thomas, Mike Proffit and Grover Jones. Friends may call Sunday evening, from 6- 9 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
