Roma Gayle Elkins

Roma Gayle Elkins, age 72 of Raven, Virginia was surrounded by her family at home as she drew her last breath here on earth on Monday, August 10, 2015. She was born in Raven, Virginia and was the daughter of the late, Leo E. and Velma Green Lawson. Gayle was a graduate of Richlands High School and began working at Clinch Valley Medical as an Insurance claim adjuster at the age of eighteen, and was relocated to The Clinic some years later. After 55 years of loyal service she retired to enjoy time with her grandchildren. Gayle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. In her spare time she loved to cook, knit, read Danielle Steele Novels, shop and make crafts at Christmas time. She had such a kind and loving spirit that it seemed radiate from her. She attended the Clearview Methodist Church and was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Bobby E. “Robbie” Elkins and two brothers, Carl Lawson and Dave Lawson. Those who remain to carry on her spirit are: Her loving husband, Bob Elkins of Raven, VA Daughter-in-law, Crystal Elkins of Raven, VA Grandchildren, Tanner Elkins and Tiarra Elkins of Raven, VA Three Nieces: Tina Altizer, Karen Pruitt and Donna Alley Two Nephews: Charlie Lawson and John Lawson Sister-in-laws: Shirley Lawson of Cedar Bluff, VA Mary Lawson of Paintlick, VA Jean Elkins of Claypool Hill, VA The family would like to thank, Pat Vernon, Laura and Randy Vernon for always being there for the family. Also a special thanks to the outpatient infusion staff on the 5th floor at Clinch Valley Medical Center for always going above and beyond for their patients. Funeral services for Roma Gayle Elkins will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Thursday evening, August 13, 2015 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Minister’s Angie and Thomas Stranger and Rev. Scott Gooch officiating. Entombment will be on Friday for the family at Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family suggest memorial donations be made to the Clearview Methodist Church, P.O. Box 55, Doran, VA 24612 in lieu of flowers. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
