Ronald Wayne Puckett, II

Ronald “Ron” Wayne Puckett, II, of the Pea Patch area of Buchanan County, Virginia, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025. Ronald was born on June 5, 1980, in Richlands, Virginia, and was the son of Margaret Brown Puckett of Pea Patch, Virginia, and the late Ronald Wayne Puckett. He was a 1999 graduate of Whitewood High School and worked as a cross-coutnry tractor trailer driver and heavy equipment operator. He was married to the love of his life, Karen “Kay” Sparks Puckett. They shared a strong faith and enjoyed attending and visiting churches together throughout the area. Ron was a gifted musician who could play just about any stringed instrument, but his true love was the banjo—“banjer,” as he called it. He proudly owned a Gibson “Earl Scruggs” model banjo autographed by Scruggs himself at SPBGMA. Though it was his prized possession, Ron believed his instruments were made to be played, not just displayed-and he played it beautifully. Earl Scruggs would have been proud. In addition to his father, Ron was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Garland Hale and Ethel “Gay” Rife Hale; his maternal grandparents, Clyde Dennis Brown and Helen Margaret Snyder Brown; two uncles, Ernest Breeden and Lowell Breeden; and two aunts, Mona Jean Wagner and Betty Jo Sloan. Ron is survived by: His Devoted Wife, Karen “Kay” Sparks Puckett of Pea Patch Mother: Margaret Puckett of Pea Patch Sisters: Kelly Goodman and husband, D.R. of Pounding Mill, Virginia Kathy Cole and husband, Rocky of Whitewood, Virginia Nieces and nephew whom he loved as his own: Miriam Burniston and husband, Thomas of Portsmouth, NH; Emily Goodman of Pounding Mill, Virginia; and Rachel Acosta of Rosedale, Virginia; Cainan Goodman of Rosedale, Virginia Great Nephew, Bowen “Bo” Goodman, the pride and joy of the family Stepson, Austin Sparks Stepdaughter, Helena Hicks Stepgrandchildren: Adam Justice, III, Colton Lane Justus, and Dawson Blake Justus Uncles: AC Breeden and wife, Leslie of Madisonville, KY; Dennis Brown and wife, Beatrice of Orlando, FL; and aunts, Cheryl Rife and husband, Ray of Cedar Bluff, Virginia; Sue Breeden of Pea Patch; Peggy Breeden of Kimbolton, OH and a host of beloved cousins. Funeral services for Ronald Wayne Puckett, II will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with Kathy Cole officiating. Interment will follow at the Knob Cemetery on Pea Patch, near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Pallbearers will be D. R. Goodman, Rocky Cole, Cainan Goodman, Thomas Burniston, Austin Sparks, and Andrew Jenks.
