Ronnie Ellis Hill

Ronnie Ellis “Bunker” Hill, age 70 of Swords Creek, Virginia fought a courageous battle with cancer, but lost the war on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Wake Forest Hospital in North Carolina. He was born in Russell County, Virginia and was the son of Mildred Frances Clines Hill and the late Ralph Bernard Hill. Ronnie worked many years as a coal miner and a proud member of the UMWA Local #6167 of Jewell Ridge and also worked as truck driver for Gateway paving. He was an avid fisherman, loved to hunt and generally be in the outdoors. He was well known as a jokester and had the gift of gab. He never met a stranger and his family knew that once he got to socializing, he was going to be there a while. His loving kind spirit will forever be carried on by his children and grandchildren whom he loved with his whole heart. Ronnie was of the Baptist faith and was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a grandson, Ritchie Ellis Hill, Jr and a daughter in law, Donna Lynn Jones Hill. Those who remain to carry on his loving spirit are: His mother, Mildred Frances Clines Hill of Swords Creek, VA Wife, Teresa Lowe Hill of Swords Creek, VA Son, Ritchie Ellis Hill of Galax, VA Daughters: Rhonda Ann Hill Musick of Honaker, VA Tasha Harless Hicks and husband Danny of Pulaski, VA Sisters: Sandra Griffith of Wardell, VA Donna Gail Hill of Swords Creek, VA Janet Hill Lankford and husband Dennis of Swords Creek, VA Rebecca Ratliff and husband Doug of Swords Creek, VA Grandchildren, Amber Mucisk, Dustin Cole, Kayla Cole, Isaac Cole, Elora Hicks, Lisa Santana McKenzie, Shianne Finery and Cody Dye. Great Grandchildren, Brentley Musick, Aubree Artrip and Javiar Wade. The funeral service for Ronnie Hill will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Monday, January 29, 2018 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Dennis White officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Dennis Lankford, Doug Ratliff, Rick Hill, Frankie Musick, Allen Martin, Robert “Dog” Miller, Blake Artrip and James Crews. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ronnie Sharp, John Reedy and Troy Horton. The family will begin receiving friends at 6:00 pm Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home.
