Ruby Ball Lawson

Ruby Ball Lawson, age 81, of Raven, Virginia, left this Earth to the welcomed arms of Jesus Christ on January 11, 2014, after a short battle with cancer. Mrs. Lawson was born on March 17, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of the Raven area of Russell County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Avery and Renee Belle Horton Ball. Ruby was a member of the Horton Ridge Church of God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey “Snake” Lawson and brother, Roscoe Ball. She is survived by: Four Daughters: Brenda Carol Taylor and husband Larry of Tazewell, Va. Rita Diane Griffith and husband Russell of Raven, Va. Patricia Christine Steele of Raven, Va. Lesia Robin Lawson of Raven, Va. Three Sons: Hubert Leslie Lawson and wife Brenda of Raven, Va. Samuel Dean Lawson and wife Lisa of Raven, Va. Brian Keith Lawson and Robin Sullivan of Raven, Va. Three Sisters: Trudell Ball of Raven, Va. Dolly Absher and husband Joe of Raven, Va. Doris Dye of Rosedale, Va. Seven Grandsons: Scott Compton and wife Danielle; Jason Taylor and wife Faith; Russell Griffith, Jr. and wife Keisha; Colton Lawson; Brock Steele; Brett Steele; James Hale Three Granddaughters: Monica Fleming and husband James; Christina Griffith; Katie Hale Five Great Grandsons: Corey Compton, Logan Fleming, Gavin Taylor, J.J. Taylor, Austin Fleming Four Great Granddaughters: Kayla Compton, Cassidy Fleming, Emily Griffith, Jenna Fleming Funeral services for Ruby Ball Lawson will be conducted Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Rev. Dennis White officiating. Burial will follow at Horton Ridge Family Cemetery at Horton Ridge near Raven, Virginia. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Scott Compton, Russell Griffith Jr., Jason Taylor, Brock Steele, Brett Steele, Corey Compton, James Fleming, and Billy Beavers.
