Sarah Arlene Buchanan

Sarah Arlene Buchanan, age 76, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia died on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at her home. Arlene was born in Russell County, Virginia on May 8, 1939 to the late Arnold Perry Brown and Anna Ruth White Brown. She was a teacher in Russell County from 1962 to 1999. Arlene graduated from Lebanon High School Class of 1956 and she continued her education and obtained her Bachelor’s Degree from Emory and Henry College and later her Master’s Degree at Vanderbilt University. Arlene was a member of the Community Heights Baptist Church. She was also a charter member of the Russell County Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother: G.I. Brown. Those left behind to cherish her memory include: Her husband: Preston Taylor Buchanan Two Daughters: Laura Buchanan Hess and husband, Chris of Richlands, Virginia Sarah Preston Buchanan Taylor and husband, Frank of Rosedale, Virginia One Son: Ira Buchanan and wife, Janice of Bland, Virginia Nine Grandchildren: Daniel McClanahan and wife, Ginny of Vansant, VA; Brittany McClanahan of Richlands, VA; Lauralynn McClanahan of Cedar Bluff, VA; Frank William Taylor, III of Rosedale, VA; Adam Taylor of Rosedale, VA; Bryce Taylor of Rosedale, VA; Ethan Buchanan of Bland, VA; Blake Buchanan of Bland, VA; Karah Buchanan of Bland, VA Four Great-Grandchildren: Jaidyn Moran, Madisyn Honaker, Claire McClanahan, and Caitlyn McClanahan Nephew: Rodney Brown and wife, Karen of Cedar Bluff, VA The family would like to thank Dr. Michel Bidros and his staff of Richlands, VA for their care and compassion. Funeral services for Sarah Arlene Buchanan will be conducted on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at 7PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Bill Keele officiating. Interment will be held on Monday, December 28, 2015 at 11AM at the Rich Valley Presbyterian Cemetery in Rich Valley, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Frank Taylor, II; Chris Hess, Daniel McClanahan, Frank William Taylor, III, Adam Taylor, and Ethan Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Hankins, Larry Cole, and Dr. Sexton Burkett. Friends may call from 5PM to 7PM Sunday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
