Shirley Ann Hardy

With deepest regret and sorrow the family of Shirley Hardy would like to announce her passing on December 06, 2022 to all family and friends. She was affectionately known by many as "Granny Hardy". She was a very strong and resilient woman, who had a joyful spirit and sense of laughter. Her home was known to many and she welcomed each with her warm hospitality. Shirley was known for her genuine affection of dogs. There was never a dog that did not feel her love and compassion. Not only did she care for her family and home, she also gave to the community, as she worked with the local hospital, nursing home and the school systems in the area. She demonstrated excellent cooking and organizational skills while providing the skills that came so naturally to her. In all that she did, she showed great devotion, determination and care. Shirley Ann Dalton Hardy was born on July 14, 1935 to Cecil M. Dalton and Lucille Harris Dalton in Pocahontas, Virginia. She is survived by her husband Dewey Hardy. They were married sixty-nine years and shared three children, Rebecca Hardy, Clara Roberts and Max Hardy and his wife, Tammy. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandon Whitt, Courtney Whitt, Hardy Mitchell, Claire Hardy and Jackson Hardy. As well, as her great grandchildren, Ethan Whitt and Claire Goerlitz. In addition, she is survived by her sister, Margie Dalton Ferguson and husband William Ferguson, her brother John Denny and wife Florence Denny. Shirley’s services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 at Hurst Scott Funeral Home which is located at 870 Main Street Tazewell, Virginia 24651. Family viewing will be at 11:00 am, with friends and visitors at 12:00 pm. The Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with the Reverend Todd Yonce of Blue Jay United Methodist Church of Beaver, West Virginia officiating. The burial and committal service will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum which is located at 38659 Governor G.C. Perry Highway Bluefield, Virginia 24605.
