Shirley Sue Harrison Christian

Shirley Sue Harrison Christian, age 76, of Plainfield, Indiana, formerly of Bandy, VA, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at Countryside Meadows in Avon, Indiana following a lengthy illness. She was born in Bandy, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Clyde E and Thelma Harrison Honaker. Shirley was a Richlands High School graduate. Soon after graduation she married her best friend, Carl C. Christian. Shirley and Carl moved to Indiana and there they raised four boys. They always called the hills of Virginia their home. She enjoyed many trips to the beaches of North Carolina with family. She always welcomed family and friends into her home and was an excellent cook. Her specialties were homemade biscuits and homemade candy. She worked for many years at National City Bank and was also an Avon representative. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Carl Christian; son, Michael “Butch” Christian; daughter-in-law, Virginia “Sis” Christian; sister, Helen France; and sister-in-law, Janice “Flossie” Honaker. Shirley is survived by: Her Sons: Carl Dwayne Christian and wife, Shelly of Plainfield, IN Phillip Christian and wife, Laura of Plainfield, IN David Christian and wife, Julie of Mooresville, IN Brothers: Alan Honaker of Baptist Valley, VA Eugene Harrison and wife, Paula of Baptist Valley, VA Sisters: Juanita Jessee and husband, Eddie of Abingdon, VA Betty Cordle and husband, Jeff of Claypool Hill, VA She had two special canine companions, Buddy and Toby Grandchildren: Pam Porter, Stevie, Kiley, Emily, Melissa, Cameron, Elijah, Joey, Michael, Jonny and Alex Christian. Three great-grandchildren also survive her, Izaiah and Camden Christian, Emery Faye Christian along with a host of family and friends. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with Pastor Barry Jessee officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
