Shirley Ann Puckett

Shirley Ann Puckett was born on April 15, 1941, in Vallscreek, West Virginia. She passed away on June 15, 2026, following a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family. Shirley was the daughter of the late Hobart McKinley Whitaker and Fannie Belle Crockett Whitaker. She made her home in Claypool Hill for the last 54 years. She loved to work in her flower gardens, decorate her home, visit the beach, and go to concerts. She was an employee of Shrader’s Inc. of Richlands for 20 years, but was proud to be a Virginia Department of Corrections Officer. She served as a correctional officer at the Virginia Center for Women and Keen Mountain Correctional Center until her retirement in 2009. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 5 sisters, 4 brothers, and one granddaughter, Jessica Lynn. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by: Her husband of 63 years, Richard “Don” Puckett Daughters: Donna David and her husband Ted of Jewell Ridge, Virginia Melissa Compton and her husband, Michael, of Richlands, Virginia Jennifer Douthat and her husband, Dan, of Mohawk, Tennessee Son: Richard “Don Jr.” Puckett and his wife, Patty of Bluff City, Tennessee Grandchildren: Ashley, Brandon, Courtney, Brett, Brittney, Kaleigh, and Jesse Great-Grandchildren: Desiree, Destiny, Austin, Alleah, Jayden, Alex, Remi, Archie, and Ryder Great-Great Grandchildren: Nylah and Autumn Brother-in-law: William Puckett and wife, Susan, of Steelsburg, Virginia Sister-in-law: Naomi Puckett, of Richlands, Virginia Several Nieces and Nephews also survive. The family extends their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Legacy Hospice and Palliative Care for the exceptional care, compassion, and dignity they provided during this lengthy illness. Our family is forever grateful to Nora Johnson for her unwavering devotion and exceptional personal care during these very difficult times. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Friday afternoon from 1 pm until the time of the service at 2 pm.
