Shirley Whittington

Shirley Jean Kinder Whittington went to be with the Lord on the evening of December 1, 2008 in Bristol, Tennessee after her courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Walter Bill Kinder and the late Anna Marie Lowe Kinder. She was a 1976 graduate of Richlands High School and Southwest Virginia Community College in 1977. She was employed by Holiday Inn Express at Claypool Hill where she spread her kindness and love to travelers and her coworkers every day. Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend, and was loved by many. She loved the Lord and showed it through her kindness and joy to her loved ones. She loved babies and children, especially the little ones in her family. Survivors are: Her husband of 30 years: Paul Wayne Whittington Two Daughters: Jennifer Whittington of Johnson City, Tennessee Meagan Whittington of the home Loving Sisters: Janice Wheeler of Richlands, Virginia Linda Kinder of Hansonville, Virginia Three Brothers: Harold Kinder of Abingdon, Virginia Larry Kinder of Abingdon, Virginia Dean Kinder and wife Tammy of Bristol, Tennessee Nieces: Michelle Kinder Duty and husband Leo Duty and Melissa Kinder. Nephews: Greg Wheeler, Jimmy Wheeler and wife Kathy, Jeff Kinder and wife Tonya Great nieces: Morgan Brooke Duty, Anna Katherine Duty, and Brianna Wheeler. Great nephews: Andrew Wheeler, Justin Wheeler, and Bronson Wheeler. Special friend: Kathy Byrd. She is also survived by many beloved cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. Funeral services for Shirley Jean Whittington will be conducted Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with her nephew, Jeff Kinder, officiating. Inurnment will follow on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 2:00pm at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Jeff Kinder, Greg Wheeler, Jimmy Wheeler, Tommy Whittington, Jason Chavis, and Darrin Lowe. Friends may call after 6:00pm Wednesday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
