Tami Holmes

Tami Louise Holmes, age 37 departed this life to be with the Lord who she loved with all her heart, on May 19, 2009 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Tami was born January 6, 1972, in Richlands, VA. She was the only daughter of Pastor Richard and Carol Cook Holmes of Bristol, VA. She attended the United Pentecostal Church of Bristol, VA, where she played the piano, was a Sunday School teacher and Youth Director. She was baptized in Jesus Name and received the Holy Ghost at the age of 9. She has lived for the Lord faithfully, even through a severe illness that lasted many years. Now she has met the Bread of Life and has entered into the realm of Eternal Life where there is no more suffering and she rests in the arms of a wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ. Tami was a lifelong resident of the Abingdon/Bristol area and was a graduate of Abingdon High School, Class of 1990. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Virginia Intermont College of Bristol, VA, and her Master’s Degree in Social Work from Radford University in Radford, VA. She was employed by Highlands Community Services in Washington Co., VA. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Thedford Holmes, and maternal grandfather, Charles Bernard Cook. Survivors include: Her Parents, Pastor Richard and Carol Cook Holmes Brothers: Bruce Holmes and wife, Tamela of Richlands, VA Jonathan Holmes and wife, Melanie of Richlands, VA Grandparents, Charles and Frances Edwards of Richlands, VA Martha Holmes of Richlands, VA Nieces: Nakaya, Ariana and Aleah Holmes also survive along with several aunts and uncles, including special aunt and uncle, Louise and Sam Rutledge of Beckley, WV. A homecoming service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Apostolic United Pentecostal Church of Richlands, VA with Pastors Jack Cunningham, Farley Christian, Jr., and Ricky Shutt officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be cousins: Anthony, Brian, Bobby, Jackie, Scotty, Ronnie, Jr., J.C., and Ray Holmes. The family will receive friends at the Apostolic United Pentecostal Church: 200 Holmes Circle, Richlands, VA from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009.
