Thomas Newton Cole

Thomas Newton Cole, age 82, of Pounding Mill, Virginia, formerly of Bearwallow, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at a local Richlands hospital following an illness. He was born June 27, 1937 in Jewell Ridge, Virginia and was the son of the late John Hersety Cole and Willard Emiline Nelson Cole. Tom was a heavy equipment operator for many years and a proud member of the Bishop UMWA Local# 6025. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was a lifetime resident of the area. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters: Gladie Janell Elswick, Juanita Alva Crawford, Virginia Mae Cole; brother, Donald Lee Cole; and son in law, Jeffery Coy Horn. He is survived by his: Loving wife, Ella Jean Cole of Pounding Mill, VA Daughters: Debra Wilburn and husband, Keith of Richmond, VA Sherry Horn of Pounding Mill, VA Son, Bruce Cole and wife, Sharon of Cedar Bluff, VA Brothers: George H. Cole and wife, Nona of Baptist Valley, VA Homer H. Cole and wife, Joan of Bearwallow, VA Special friend, Ed Lester Grandchildren, Juliann Dales, Rebecca Wilburn, Jordyn Cole, Kayla Doud, Cody Wilburn and Jacob Cole. Great-grandchildren, Charleigh Dales and Raleigh Dales Funeral services for Thomas Newton Cole will be conducted Sunday, March 8, 2020 at 2pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel with the Pastor Chris White officiating. Members of the UMWA Chaplain Corps will conduct a Memorial Light Service. Interment will follow at the Cole Family Cemetery on Bearwallow near Jewell Ridge, Virginia. Pallbearers will be: Cody Wilburn, Jacob Cole, Joshua Dales, Joshua Doud, Marty Keen, Larry Cole, J.B. Cole, Chris Cole and Roy Jewell. The family will begin receiving friends at the funeral home Saturday evening beginning at 6:00pm.
