Troy Jesse Hankins, Jr. age 81 of Cedar Bluff, VA died Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born April 15, 1930 in Baptist Valley, VA and was a son of the late Troy Jesse Hankins, Sr. and Mae Tabor Hankins. Mr. Hankins was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, and a Life Member of VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA and a Life Member of the VFW National Home. He was a Master Mason belonging to the South Gate – Potter Lodge #782 AF & AM in Winchester, OH, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a thirty-second degree Mason with the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter Consistory Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Columbus. He was of the Christian faith and a member of Cliffield Christian Church – Disciples of Christ at Cliffield, VA. He was a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Claude Hankins; five sisters, Dora Looney, Nell Altizer, Nadine McCoy, Mary Cochran, and Ruth Hankins. Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Sybil Ward “Tiny” Hankins; two sisters, Betty Looney of Baptist Valley, VA, and Pauline Bandy of Bandy, VA; special great – nephew, Kevin Delp of Baptist Valley, VA; special caregivers, Donna Winingham and the Staff of Legacy Hospice; several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends also survive. Funeral services for Troy Jesse Hankins, Jr. will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 28, 2011 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Rev. Rufus Spence and Pastor Chris White officiating. Burial will follow at Hankins Family Cemetery in Baptist Valley, VA. Pallbearers will be Troy Rasnake, Jim Delp, Kevin Delp, Wayne Cochran, Lonnie Davis, Wendell Hall, and Kenneth Earls. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerry Cochran, Bo Rasnake, and the men of Cliffield Christian Church. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by members of the Barns – Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to Legacy Hospice: 1963 Second Street, Richlands, VA 24641.
