Virgie Marie Helton

Virgie Marie Cox Helton, of Bristol, Virginia, formerly of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, at the age of 96, was escorted by angels to her heavenly home on Saturday, January 27, 2024. She was born in Russell County, VA., and was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Cox and Ruth Graham Barnett Cox. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Dick) Helton; sister, Edith Farmer; brothers, Bobby and Lonnie Cox; beloved daughter-in-law, Joan Beavers Helton; and son-in-law, Ronald Harr. Survivors include: Son: Harold Helton of Piney Flats, TN. Daughters: Ruth Harr of Bristol, VA. Phyllis Walls and her husband, Ken of Piney Flats, TN. Sandra Anderson and her husband, Alan of Bristol, TN. Grandchildren: Jason Walls and their wife, Brooke of Johnson City, TN. Melanie Johnson and her husband, Mike of Piney Flats, TN. Jessica Taylor and her husband, Lance of Johnson City, TN. Great Grandchildren: Gavin Johnson, Connor Johnson, and Kynlee Johnson Lochlan Walls and York Walls Liam Taylor and Londyn Taylor Sisters: Betty Mallory (Jim), Lois Vencill, and Sue Sprinkle (JR) all of Mechanicsville, VA. To her children, she was a loving mother as well as a devoted wife, sister, aunt, friend, and Maw Maw “Ree” to the grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the Richlands First Assembly of God Church. She loved The Lord with all her heart and was a devoted Christian her entire life and exemplified a true Christian as described in Proverbs 31 (a wife of noble character, she is worth more than rubies). To her family, she leaves her heritage of unconditional love for the Lord, a mother who taught about the love of Jesus by her Godly example, a virtuous wife and mother, trustworthy, hardworking, always resourceful, and wise. She was well known for her delicious meals for family and friends, which always included homemade pies, cakes, and bread. She loved visits from family and friends and her favorite time of the year was the annual beach trip enjoying all the fresh oysters and making memories with family. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, beginning at 1:00 PM at the Hurst- Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Buddy Herald officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be: Jason Walls, Mike Johnson, Gavin Johnson, Connor Johnson, Lance Taylor, and Bobby Shelley. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia.
