Walter Harrison

Walter Jack Harrison, age 83 of Cliffield, VA died Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Golden Age Alzheimers facility in Claypool Hill, VA; strong to the end, he never waivered in his commitment and love for his family. He was born May 7, 1928 at Cliffield, VA and was a son of the late James Bandy “J.B.” Harrison and Mae Turner Harrison. Jack was an avid mechanic and worked for Texaco Gas and Oil for many years; then fostered his creative spirit by founding Harrison Repair Service. When not working, Jack’s favorite pastime was fishing and preparing the catch for his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Davidson and Margaret Shannon; six brothers, Garland Harrison, William “Bill” Harrison, Clarence Harrison, Blaine Harrison, Carl Harrison, and Firm Harrison. Those left to cherish his memories include his loving wife of sixty-two years, Verla Smith Harrison; daughter, Eva Lorraine Dean and husband, Don of Tazewell, VA; one brother, George Harrison and wife, Rhonda of North Tazewell, VA; two sisters, Eva Fisher of Leesburg, VA and Dana Roberts and husband, Clyde of Chattanooga, TN. He loved to be surrounded by his grandchildren, J.D. Dean and wife, Becky, Karen Waldron and husband, Matt. Many happy hours were spent with great-grandchildren, Alexandria “Girlee” Dean and Tristan “Tater” Dean. Many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends also survive. Funeral services for Walter Jack Harrison will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with the Reverend Linda Parson and Reverend Lawrence Hayes officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be J.D. Dean, Tristan Dean, Jason Hodge, Mike Honaker, Brad Matney, and Mark Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Pierce Davidson, Hughie Long, and Darrell Fisher. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 – 9 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011.
