Wanda Jo Cooper

On the morning of Monday, August 22, 2022, Wanda Jo Cooper left the arms of the love of her life, Charlie, and into the arms of Jesus. Wanda Joe was born August 9, 1954 to the late James and Emily Jane Logan. On June 19, 1971, she married Charlie Cooper and together they had two children, Michele and Brian. Wanda became a member and was baptized into the Oak Grove Church of Christ in October 1978. She was a 1972 graduate from Iager High School and then graduated from the Southwest Virginia Community College with her registered nursing degree and retired from Cumberland Mountain Community Services as a psychiatric nurse. Wanda was well known for her beautiful voice and love of bluegrass gospel. Along with Junior and Ola Joyce Mullins, Charlie and Wanda started the Oak Grove Bluegrass Gospel group. A highlight of Wanda Jo’s life was when she sang on the stage of the Grand Ole Gospel. She is singing with the angels now. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Larry Logan and Dennis Logan; and a nephew, Kevin Logan. She is survived by: Her Loving Husband of 51 years, one month and three days, Charlie Cooper Daughter: Michele Cooper Cantrell of Pea Patch Son: Brian Cooper and wife, Gabbi of Chilhowie, VA Her Grandchildren that she adored: Logan Cantrell and wife, Isabella; McKenna Stiltner and husband, Austin; Sophia Cooper; Jessica Whitaker and husband, DJ; Dakota Colvin and wife, Vicky; and her great-grandchildren; Mia Cantrell, Caroline Cantrell; and Bryson Woodard. Sister, Lynn Brown of Richlands, VA Sister-in-law, Peggy Pelliter of Macclesfield, NC Also surviving are beloved nieces and nephews; and treasured in-laws, family, and friends. The Funeral service for Wanda Jo Cooper will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2022, at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, VA with Preacher Hobart Kennedy and Dennis Wimmer officiating. Interment will follow at the Blankenship Family Cemetery on Compton Mountain, near Whitewood, VA. Pallbearers will be Logan Cantrell, Ricky Hanley, Zack Rife, Ronnie Taylor, Austin Stiltner, James Mullins, Jeff Cooper, and Chris Cooper. The Cooper family will receive friends from 6-9 pm on Friday evening at the funeral home.
