Willard Lee Peery

Willard Lee Peery, age 73 of Bandy, VA died Monday, September 9, 2019 at his home. He was born July 18, 1946 at McDowell County, WV and was a son of the late Alonzo and Irma Marie Gannon Peery. Willard had worked for many years as a Coal Miner for various local mining companies. Mr. Peery was a retired United States Army / Army National Guard Veteran, serving in the Middle East during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Mr. Peery was a member of Bravo Company 276th Engineer Battalion – United States Army National Guard in Cedar Bluff, VA and served his country for over twenty years; receiving many medals, citations, ribbons and awards recognizing his steadfast devotion and dedication to the defense of our beloved Nation. Willard enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; being with his family, especially his grandchildren, mowing, riding his 4-wheeler and “playing” on the computer. He attended the Pisgah Holiness Church and touched the lives of numerous people. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Rachael Whitt; one grandson, Noah Peery; one half-sister, Virgie Marie Pack; six brothers, Carl Peery, Charles Peery, Elwood Peery, Kenneth Peery, Allen Peery and Raymond Peery. Those who survive to cherish his memory include his loving wife of fifty-four years, Florence Harrington Peery; one daughter, Robin Lee Tabor and husband, Mark of Bandy, VA; one son, Mark Peery of Rock, WV; three sisters, Evelyn Burress and husband, Ervin of Knoxville, TN, Alice Malphus of Millington, TN and Florence Smith and husband, Donnie of Ohio; one brother, Ronnie Peery and wife, Elaine of Ohio; eight grandchildren, Nikki Deel, Josh Tabor, Justin Tabor, Kelsey Delgado, Shanel Crouse, Levi Peery, Jessi Whitt and Zachary Whitt; six great-grandchildren, Keyonna Cordle, Cayden Cordle, Easton Whitt, Landen Whitt, Felix Cobb and Nathalie Delgado; a host of nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends also survive. Funeral services for Willard Lee Perry will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Brother Danny Short and the Rev. Daniel Bradley officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by members of the Barns-Beavers VFW Post #7136 in Tazewell, VA. Honoring his wishes, Willard’s earthly body will be cremated following the funeral service.
