William "Bill" Cregger

William Frank “Bill” Cregger, age 79 of Tazewell, VA died Sunday, August 26, 2012 at his daughter’s home in Mavisdale, VA. He was born August 27, 1932 at Smyth County, VA and was a son of the late Paul Clinton Cregger and Vicie Gray Puckett Cregger. Mr. Cregger was a disabled welder having worked for the former S & S Machinery and several local coal mines. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, especially coon hunting, and fishing. He was a member of the Tazewell Moose Lodge #198 in North Tazewell, VA and enjoyed spending time at the Moose Lodge, making friends, talking with his best friend, Dave Herald and listening to country music on FM 94. Mr. Cregger was of the Pentecostal faith and preached whenever and wherever the Spirit led him. He will be missed by all his family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Jean Cregger; two brothers, Ross Cregger and James Cregger; one sister, Mary Ann “Peggy” York; one grandson, Mike Smith. Those left to cherish his memories include two daughters, Judy Smith and husband, J.W. of Mavisdale, VA and Sharon Stacey and husband, Jerry of Tazewell, VA; three sisters, Ruth Fields of Orange, VA, Mary Bennett of Seattle, WA, and Irma Walthall of Fredericksburg, VA; five brothers, Lee Cregger of Bandy, VA, R.C. Cregger of Midland, VA, Sam Cregger of Front Royal, VA, Clarence Cregger and Robert Cregger both of North Tazewell, VA; two granddaughters, Shawntel Smith and fiancé, Jason Sims of Doran, VA and Jessica Stacey of Tazewell, VA; three grandsons, Jerry Stacey and Donald Stacey of Tazewell, VA and Johan Smith of Montana; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Funeral services for William Frank “Bill” Cregger will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Hurst – Scott Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with Minister Chris White officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, VA. Pallbearers will be Chris Cregger, J.R. Sizemore, Jason Sims, and other family members and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the Members of the Tazewell Moose Lodge #198. The family will receive friends at the funeral home after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 28, 2012.
