William Clark

Mr. William Steven 'Steve' Clark , age 56, of Abingdon, Virginia formerly of Richlands, Virginia, died Tuesday evening, December 7, 2004 in a Richlands area hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of the late William Graham and Ora Kate Dye Clark, both Tazewell County natives. He was a 1967 graduate of Richlands High School and a 1985 graduate of SVCC with an associate degree in Administrative Justice. He was a U. S. Army Vietnam Veteran, a Purple Heart recipient , a member of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 of Richlands, Virginia, Tazewell County Disabled Veterans Tazewell County Chapter #31, and Vietnam Veterans of America. He lived in the Richlands area most of his life where he attended the Richlands First Christian Church and was a member of the Highlands Fellowship Church in Abingdon, Virginia where he resided the past four years. He was a former employee of the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands and was a former manager of the Richlands Airport. Steve was active in many community organizations. He was a Kentucky Colonel and received the VFW Citizenship award and the D.A.V. Community service award. He participated in the Virginia Department of Homeland Security Task Force for the Washington County Emergency management team in coordination with the Washington Dulles Task Force. He was a previous instructor for FEMA, a past coordinator for Tazewell County Department of Emergency Management services, and was active with the Red Cross and American Lung Association. He volunteered in the RHS Athletic Department and the Richlands area Chamber of Commerce. He was a past member and president of the Richlands Rescue squad, the Richlands Volunteer Fire Dept., and was a special police officer for the 29th Judicial District. He was a past member of Richlands Lodge # 318A.F. & A.M., the Kazim Temple, York Rites, and the Richlands and Coeburn Eastern Star. President Casteen had him appointed as a honorary Foreman at Scott Stadium at the University of Virginia. Steve loved woodworking, traveling, collecting eagles and playing Santa Clause at Christmas time. Steve's family wishes to express special appreciation to Robin Trull and the staff of Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his grandparents Charlie and Pearlie Mae Dye, Gussie I. Hicks, Andrew Clark and his cat Auggie. Survivors include: Wife- Mary Lynne Cantrell Clark of Abingdon, Virginia. Son- Christopher Allen Clark and wife Patricia 'Trish' of Abingdon, Virginia. Brothers- David E. Clark and wife Frances of Colonial Heights, Virginia James G. Clark and wife Susie of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Mother and father in law- Walter and Selvie Cantrell of Cedar Bluff Virginia Dear Friend, Audrey Helbert of Richlands, Virginia His cats: Sassie, Midnight, Missy, Mister Moo, Baby Cakes, Boo Boo Kitty, Thomas P. Catt, Molly, Pumpkin, Abbey and Weebles, two grandkitties, Creamsicle and Butterscotch, and dog, Maggie May. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, uncles, aunts and friends also survive him. Funeral services for Mr. William Steven Clark will be conducted Sunday, December 12, 2004 at 2:oo pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. John Stapleton, Elder Elmer Gene Compton and Rev. Johnny Smith officiating. Mrs. Kim Owens will be providing interpretation for the hearing impaired. Entombment will follow at the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill,Virginia. Pallbearers are: William Puckett, Gary Compton, Woodrow Mullins, Clyde Roberts, Curt Smith, Paul Elswick, Dr. Steven Dotson, Dr. Joe Addair and Dr. Tom Bays. Honorary Pallbearers are Trent Cantrell, Terry Cantrell, Jimmy Compton, Paul Call, Darrell McGlothlin, Claude McGlothlin Dr. Charles King, Earl Dye, Tom Scott, Gary Jackson, James Mullins, Bob Compton, and Donald Compton. Nieces and Nephews will serve as Flower-bearers. Members of the Casey-Shortt VFW Post # 9640 and Disabled American Veterans Tazewell County Chapter #31 will conduct military graveside rites. Friends may call Saturday, December 11, 2004 after 6:00 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
