William Eugene Maxwell

William Eugene Maxwell, age 67, of Rowe, Virginia, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023 in Honaker, Virginia. Say not in grief “He is here no more” but in thankfulness that he was. Eugene was always there and no favor was ever too big for him to take on. He always said “Yes” and showed up for his family. Our everyday just got a lot different, but we will move forward together….just as he would have wanted us to do! He was born in Richlands, Virginia and was the son of Gay Keen Maxwell of Whitewood, Virginia and the late Milfred William Maxwell. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was retired from Jewell Smokeless. He was a Whitewood High School Class of 1974 graduate and was a member of the Sandy Valley Masonic Lodge #17 AF & AM and a member of the Kazie Shriners Temple. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Elizabeth Jackson Maxwell; and a brother, Milfred Douglas Maxwell. Survivors are: Mother: Gay Keen Maxwell of Whitewood, Virginia Partner: Robin Smith of Honaker, Virginia and her two daughters, Hannah Jessee and husband, Andrew and Sarah Smith and husband, Levi Johnson Son: Travis Maxwell of Rowe, Virginia Step Daughter: Caryn Johnson and husband, Rick of Decatur, Alabama Brother: Terry Maxwell and wife, Shelia of Whitewood, Virginia Sister in Law: Shelby Maxwell of Pilgrims Knob, Virginia Nieces: Brigette Maxwell Dean; Brittany Ellington and husband, Dusty and their son, Cole; Emily Maxwell-Hobbs and husband, Daniel and their children, Landrie and Max Nephew: Rusty Maxwell and wife, Kristy Several Step Grandchildren and Honorary Grandchildren; and Several Step Great Grandchildren also survive. As well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Funeral services for William Eugene Maxwell will be conducted Sunday, July 16, 2023 at 1pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Pastor J.R. Justus officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Friends and family will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call from 6pm until 9pm on Saturday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. Members of the Sandy Valley Lodge #17 AF&AM will conduct masonic services at 7pm on Saturday evening. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Bible Church, 14715 Dismal River Road, Pilgrims Knob, Virginia 24634.
