William Howard Puckett

William Howard Puckett, age 77, of Tazewell, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 8th, 2024, at home surrounded by family. Howard was born on July 26, 1947, in Bluefield, West Virginia, the son of the late William Coy Puckett and Edith Lockhart Puckett. He graduated from Tazewell High School in 1966 and went on to receive his certifications in electrical work. He worked many years as an electrician in the mines before retiring. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Howard loved hunting and fishing as he was an avid outdoorsman. He also enjoyed his woodworking. Howard was a member of the Tazewell County Sportsman Club and the Triangle Sportsman Club. Howard was also a proud UMWA member. His family was always his number one priority, but above all, he loved God! He always set an example of how to love & love deeply; he was honestly too good for this earth. He was always appreciative of help. In a room full of people, he would make you feel like you were the most important person in that room and he was always your greatest fan. Known for his quick wit and humor, he could pull a joke before you knew it. He loved giving people nicknames; from then on, that is what he called you. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Blanche Mullins and Billie Yost and brothers-in-law Joe Yost and Bill Phillips. Those that remain to carry on his memory: His loving wife, Brenda Robins Puckett of 54 years, who he referred to as his Sweetpea. Daughters: Gwen Puckett Tester and her husband Ronny of Christiansburg, Virginia Bridget Puckett Bradshaw and her husband Dallas of Bland, Virginia Son: William Howard “Todd” Puckett Jr and Wife Robbin of Gladys, Virginia Sisters: Bobbie Sheets and husband Ralph of North Tazewell, Virginia Betty Phillips of Live Oak, Florida Katy Wynn and her husband Earnest of Tazewell, Virginia Carroll Profitt and husband Garland of Blountville, Tennessee Sue Barnett and her husband Russell of North Tazewell, Virginia Brother-in-law: Ralph “Moon” Mullins Grandchildren: Kayla Hallum and her husband Jacob of Princeton, Kentucky Kara Tester and fiancée Hunter Westmoreland of Christiansburg, Virginia Trey Tester and his wife Kaitlyn of Christiansburg, Virginia Ella Puckett, Kennedy Puckett, Wyatt Puckett of Gladys, Virginia Great Grandchildren: Bricyn Asbury, Will Hallum, Jax Hallum, Michelle Hallum, Caiden Hallum Also surviving are a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life for Howard Puckett will be conducted from 12 to 2 p.m. on November 13, 2024, at the chapel at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, with Reverend Kenneth Gillespie officiating. The UMWA Chaplain Corps will conduct a memorial tribute, followed by the VFW Post #9640, which will conduct the military rites.
