William Wimmer

William “Bill” Wimmer, age 88, of Whitewood, Virginia passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family and friends, following a lengthy illness. He was born September 29, 1923 at Whitewood, Virginia and was the son of the late Suel and Alta Perkins Wimmer. Bill was a lifelong resident of the Whitewood area. He was a veteran of the U.S Army serving in World War II. He worked 42 ½ years with Jewell Ridge Coal Company. He was a member of Flatwoods Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mark David Wimmer; two sisters, Julia “Tootsie” Richardson, Eva Goodman; two brothers, G. W. Wimmer and Grat Wimmer. Those who survive him are: His wife of 60 years, Lola Mullins Wimmer Three Sons: Michael Darrell Wimmer of Whitewood, Virginia Douglas Harold Wimmer and wife, Rita of Pounding Mill, Virginia Billy Brian Wimmer and wife, Val of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Five Sisters: Hazel Andrews of Hudson, North Carolina Chloe “Bobbie” Harper and husband, Raymond of Florahome, Florida Orpha McCoy of Ethridge, Tennessee June Horne of Whitewood, Virginia Shirley Wimmer of Abingdon, Virginia Two Granddaughters, Kelly Michelle Wimmer and Linsey McGlothlin Three Grandsons: Lance Wimmer and wife, Jaclyn Channing Wimmer and wife, Bridget Zachary Wimmer and wife, Brittney Four great grandchildren; special caregiver, Brittney Wimmer; special friends, Linville and Piney Mullins, David and Angie Sparks, Archie and Cathy White, Roger and Brenda Sanders, Mildred Catron, along with several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for William “Bill” Wimmer will be conducted Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel, Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Charlie Cooper and Rev. Hobert Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Virginia. Casey Short VFW Post #9640 will conduct military graveside rites. Nephews and great nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be: Preston Wimmer, Linville Mullins, Roger Saunders, Ron Kelly, and Archie White. Visitation will be Tuesday, August 21, 2012 and Wednesday, August 22, 2012 from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home; 1401 Second Street; Richlands, Virginia.
