William Wingo

Mr. William W. Wingo, Jr. (Bill, Jr.), age 87, of Roanoke, Virginia, formerly of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, died Monday, July 28, 2003 in a Roanoke, Virginia hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Cedar Bluff, Virginia and was the son of the late William W. and Sarah Grinstead Wingo. He had made his home in the Cedar Bluff and Richlands area most of his life having moved to the Roanoke, Virginia area in 1995. He was a retired maintenance supervisor of Pittston Coal Co. and a Richlands High School Class of 1932 graduate. He was a member of the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church. He was a member of UMWA Local #7327 Jewell Valley, VA and was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Vandyke (Dot) Wingo; one daughter, Sarah Josephine Wingo; two sisters, Lois McGraw and Mary Margaret Crosette; and one brother, David Wingo preceded him in death. Survivors are: Two Daughters: Darla W. Barrow and husband, Jack C. of Abingdon, Virginia Dottie Lee Wingo of Roanoke, Virginia One Son: William W. Wingo, III and wife Wendy of Troutville, Virginia One Sister: Mrs. Virginia (Tommy) Dickinson of Branden, Florida Grandchildren: Mary Lee Murphy and husband, Joseph of Lebanon, TN; Jack Chesley Barrow II of Abingdon, Virginia; and William A. Barrow of Atlanta, Georgia Great Grandchildren: Lindsey Murphy and Sean Murphy of Lebanon, TN Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mr. William W. Wingo, Jr. will be conducted Thursday, July 31, 2003 at 1:00PM at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Jack Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at the Jones Chapel Cemetery in Cedar Bluff, Virginia. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
