Willis P. Williams

Willis P. Williams, age 74, of Cedar Bluff, Virginia, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015, in a Richlands, Virginia hospital following a brief illness. He was born in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, and was the son of the late George and Hattie West Williams. He was a lifelong resident of the Cedar Bluff area and was a retired miner for Jewell Ridge Coal Co. at Seabord #2 and was a member of the UMWA. He was a Richlands High School Class of 1959 graduate and was a U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran. He was a 48 year member of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 AF & AM and was a member of the former Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting and fishing, woodworking, and spending time with the light of his life, his granddaughter Sarah. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Hess and Martha Williams. Survivors are: His Wife of 47 years: Brenda Harman Williams Daughter: Donna Williams Lyons of Apopka, Florida Son: Fred Williams of Danville, Virginia Sister: Mary Catherine Williams of Cedar Bluff, Virginia Brothers: Bob Williams and wife, Christine of Cedar Bluff, Virginia James Williams of Cedar Bluff, Virginia George Edward Williams of Pounding Mill, Virginia Urshell Williams and wife, Shirley of Princeton, West Virginia Granddaughter: Sarah E. Williams Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for Willis Williams will be conducted Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at 2:00pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia, with the Rev. Cody Harman officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9630 will conduct military graveside rites. Pallbearers will be: Robert Williams, Jr., Greg Williams, Mike Newberry, Allen Gross, Monte Lambert, Gilbert Harman, and Robert Harman. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Ovie Barnett, Frankie Deel, Bronson Whited, Frazier Joyce, and Robert Day. Friends may call after 6:00pm Monday evening at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia. Masonic services will be conducted by the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge #260 at 7pm Monday evening.
