Barbara Ann Lester

Barbara Ann Hensley Lester, age 66 of the Lesters Fork section of Hurley VA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022 in Roanoke Virginia following an extended illness. Born July 23, 1955 she was the daughter of the late John Earl and Bernie Jackson Hensley. Barbara enjoyed listening to music, taking scenic drives, and spending time with her family. She was a gifted craft maker and decorator, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was a truly kind and generous soul. She was a beloved mother and friend and was of the Christian faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Hensley, of Hurley Virginia. She is survived by her daughters Misty Reed (Michael); and Kristen Smith (Justin) of Roanoke; their father Randall Lester of Grundy; two granddaughters, Autumn & Faith Ivydene Reed; sisters Belinda Keene and Nancy Jackson of Grundy; brothers Jim Hensley of Hurley and Dan Hensley of Kingsport Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friend Ruth Estep, special niece Maranda Fletcher, and women she knew from their childhood and loved like daughters: Misty Justus, Beverly Prater Ashby, and Mary Hetherington. The family wishes to give special thanks to the staff of the Palliative Care Unit of Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion. Funeral services for Barbara Ann Lester will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia with the Rev. Gordon McBride officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The Lester family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, as this was a cause she cared for deeply.
