Betty Rose Farmer

June 21, 1940 - March 26, 2021

Betty Rose Farmer passed away suddenly at the home of her daughter and grandson, in Claypool Hill, Virginia, on March 26, 2021. Betty was born on June 21, 1940 in Richlands, Virginia. She attended Richlands High School where she graduated in 1958. In 1959, she married the love of her life, the late Arlin Kent Farmer, with whom she made a wonderful life for their three daughters. Betty was employed at the Mattie Williams Hospital and later Community Home Care Services until her retirement. She was a faithful member of the Chapel of Love Church where she served the Lord and her community, she was also an avid participant in the Ladies Circle. Going to church and spending time with her family were among her favorite things to do. Her kindness was unmatched, and everyone who knew her, knew that if they needed prayers, Betty was the person to call. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, George Beverly and Eva Ocie Rose, her loving husband and best friend, Arlin Kent Farmer whom she missed every day for 30 years, and her son-in-law Robert Everett Saxton Jr. who was like her own son. She is survived by her daughters – Katrina Farmer Saxton of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina, Kathy Farmer McVey of Claypool Hill, Virginia, and Kim Childress (Scott) of Pounding Mill, Virginia. Her grandchildren – Kent Saxton (Ashleigh), Molly Saxton, James McVey III (Jasmine Griffey), Dr. Kenneth McVey (Nikki), Maddy McVey, Devin Whaley, Kirsten Lowe, and Kris Whaley. Her great grandchildren – Kennedy McVey, Abbie Whaley, Dani Whaley, and Axel Whaley, along with her 5th great grandchild who will be arriving soon, Robert Everett Saxton, III. Special son-in-law and father of her grandchildren – Jimmy McVey. Special friends and neighbors – Roger and Porky Lester. Betty leaves behind her church family and many friends who admired her sweet and loving nature. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Betty felt flowers were for the living and she wanted donation’s to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or stjudes.org; or the Make-A-Wish Greater Virginia, 2810 N. Parham Rd. Suite 302, Richmond, VA 23294 in Betty’s memory. A visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 29, 2021 at the Hurst Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia, with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Roger Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens where Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband, Kent. Pallbearers will be Jimmy McVey, James McVey, Kent Saxton, Kenneth McVey, Maddy McVey, and Molly Saxton. Honorary pallbearers will be Junior Johnson, Ralph Lester, Rusty Hess, Corey Keene, and little Jaxxon Royal. The family will receive friends at Betty’s daughter, Kathy’s house in Claypool Hill, Virginia.
